I love President's Day!!

The annual trip went without a hitch this year. Lindsay did not break herself; we didn't freeze to death sleeping in the back of her pickup, and the roads were all good. With the super-secret help of our inside-Targhee-man, we found a great townhouse to rent for the weekend which exceeded all expectations. We had a fully stocked kitchen, lovely living room with a fireplace, large dining table (came in handy Saturday night), two separate rooms and 2.5 baths. I felt like a big person on a big-person vacation.

The snow was good - better than anything else I've seen so far this season. We avoided the Run of Death and Dismemberment for Lindsay's sake and had a Nice Time on everything else. It did get pretty wickedly windy at the top a few times, but I was just happy to be alive and skiing. Michael (Tiny Heinie or The Turd), Lindsay, and I hiked out of the boundary and my lungs and legs thought they were going to die. But I didn't.

As we were hiking, we stopped to watch the Teton Gravity Research guys record a skier hucking off the backside. The guy standing on the nob is about half-way up the cliff and the spot where the guy launched off is up and to the left. You can see the run-out tracks below and to the right. I'm not sure what it takes to do something like that. The guy stood at the top for quite awhile and then finally went for the gold. As he left the edge of the cliff and began to fall, his skiis scraped across another outcropping and I felt my stomach kind of flip. He landed it okay and skied it out. It was Crazy.

Oh thank you, thank you for such a splendid blog:o) I had been checking faithfully, so I was quite pleased to see the beautiful pictures of Targhee. For comparison, it's about 85 degrees here today.....no skiing in Honduras! Love you! Linz
